This is the guided reading book.

Books are based on a leveled system and we print them from Reading A to Z.  They are returned to class every day to be used for small group reading.

Directions for Think Central and Raz-Kids:

Here are the links to access Think Central and Raz-Kids web sites.  Please note that Raz-Kids is NOT required as part of their reading assignments.  Raz-Kids provides an opportunity for students to practice their own individual level reading skills if they have extra time.

YOU MUST CONTACT YOUR TEACHER TO REQUEST USERNAME/PASSWORD ACCESS DIRECTIONS.

Have fun looking through these web sites.  Students have already learned and practiced using their username and password so please help them only if it is needed.  The student has a username and password that is the SAME for both sites.

Reading and Phonics

Almost everything we do in class relates to the teaching of reading in some way. Our reading instruction uses the comprehensive approach from our Houghton Mifflin curriculum that emphasizes both phonics and reading. By the end of the year, students will have learned the short and long vowel sounds and the various ways in which we integrate and form words using vowels and consonants.  Students also learn spelling and vocabulary words specific to this grade level. A separate phonics program is also utilized to further reinforce the student’s learning of phonetic mastery.  Students participate in our Guided Reading and Guided Writing programs where they are grouped according to their assessed level, with focus on literature and writing skills that reflect their academic ability.
