Writing
First graders are developing at all different levels in their writing ability throughout the school year. Many students enter first grade with the ability to put only a few sounds down on a paper, and by June, they can write strong, descriptive and complete sentences. During the year, we introduce punctuation, discuss parts that make a sentence, and work toward adding interest and detail to our writing. Students become familiar with the Common Core learning targets for writing and use a rubric on a daily basis to self-assess writing progress.
